Description

Return exact estimated character total and missing share.

Exhibition and catalog budgets distinguish object-days, area support, estimated missing text, date envelopes and monetary rates. Each total depends on its denominator and counting convention. A local estimate or premium term does not establish a historical date, an insurance entitlement or an actual exhibition condition.

Return exact estimated character total and missing share.

When to use this tool

Use Inscription Character Loss Share when reconciling the stated artwork coverage, duration, uncertainty envelope or cost term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter retainedCharacters, estimatedMissingCharacters. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read estimatedTotalDecimal, lossShare, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Return exact estimated character total and missing share. Require nonnegative whole retained/estimatedMissing counts; total is their BigInt sum as decimal text, lossShare divides missing by numeric total or is zero with defined false.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
retainedCharactersRetained CharactersRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
estimatedMissingCharactersEstimated Missing CharactersRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
estimatedTotalDecimalExact supplied retained-plus-estimated-missing count, exported as decimal text.Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
lossShareEstimated missing/estimated total; zero placeholder if total is zero.Required. Finite number.
definedWhether the associated denominator or reporting quantity is defined; inspect before interpreting zero placeholders.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The missing count is an estimate, not restored text; empty-total zero is a placeholder and character-unit convention must be supplied.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified exhibition, provenance and insurance records with the intended measurement and contractual conventions for substantive decisions.
