Description

Preserve an explicit inscription reading and bracket convention.

Art records distinguish inscriptions, source readings, edition states, provenance dates and authority identifiers. A recorded signature is not authenticated authorship, and a possible-date span is not a probability distribution. Linear impression/plate ratios preserve selected geometry without establishing edition identity or value.

Preserve an explicit inscription reading and bracket convention.

When to use this tool

Use Artwork Inscription Bracketed Reading Token when you already have objectId, suppliedReading, editorialConvention and need to preserve an explicit inscription reading and bracket convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter objectId, suppliedReading, editorialConvention. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read token. Use the output convention below.

Enter objectId, suppliedReading, editorialConvention using the field constraints below. Encode these values, in exactly that order, as a JSON array and return the serialized array as text in token. String values are preserved without trimming or external terminology lookup.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The result records supplied values without deciphering or restoring text. Sources and asserted relationships are not independently authenticated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect original works, source documents, catalogues and relevant authority records. Use the complete provenance and scholarly assessment for attribution, chronology or rights; local labels and ratios do not make those determinations.
