Description
Return humidity excursion distances from a closed supplied band.
Conservation records distinguish sampled support, retained material, environmental bands and time-dependent model terms. A caller-supplied band or decay constant does not establish an appropriate preservation target. Local bookkeeping and simple exponential response models require separate evidence about the object and its environment.
Return humidity excursion distances from a closed supplied band.
When to use this tool
Use Humidity Band Excursion Distance when checking the stated sampling, material balance or environmental-response convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter humidity, lower, upper. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read below, above, inside. Inspect inside before interpreting the associated values.
Return humidity excursion distances from a closed supplied band. Require humidity and ordered band in [0,100]; below/above are positive parts of boundary gaps, inside includes endpoints.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| humidity | Humidity | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 100. |
| lower | Caller’s lower relative-humidity bound in percent, inclusive. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| upper | Caller’s upper relative-humidity bound in percent, inclusive; no preservation target is selected. | Required. Finite number; maximum 100. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| below | Below | Required. Finite number. |
| above | Above | Required. Finite number. |
| inside | Inside | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Inputs are relative-humidity percentages; the band is supplied, not a recommended conservation environment or damage threshold.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review verified records and the object-specific preservation assessment with a qualified conservator for actual sampling, display or treatment decisions.
