Bulk Date Dominant Range Extractor

Find earliest tied shortest contiguous bucket span meeting caller dated-item coverage, with at most 128² comparisons; undated records and within-bucket temporal precision are not invented.

Description

Bulk dates describe the period containing a chosen share of dated material.

Bulk dates describe the period containing a chosen share of dated material. The shortest qualifying bucket span is more informative than simply taking the oldest and newest dates in the entire inventory.1

Find earliest tied shortest contiguous bucket span meeting caller dated-item coverage, with at most 128² comparisons; undated records and within-bucket temporal precision are not invented.

When to use Bulk Date Dominant Range Extractor

Use this tool to find earliest tied shortest contiguous bucket span meeting caller dated-item coverage, with at most 128² comparisons; undated records and within-bucket temporal precision are not invented.

Prepare the inventory, measurements or policy dates for the collection and reporting period. Confirm units, record order and any independently established thresholds or permissions.

How to use Bulk Date Dominant Range Extractor and understand its results

  1. Prepare the inventory, measurements or policy dates for the collection and reporting period. Confirm units, record order and any independently established thresholds or permissions.
  2. Enter orderedYearBuckets, datedItemCountsByBucket, callerBulkCoverageFraction using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read shortestContiguousBulkYearBounds, achievedDatedItemCoverageFraction. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
orderedYearBucketsOrdered year bucketslist of list of numberRequired
datedItemCountsByBucketDated item counts by bucketlist of numberRequired
callerBulkCoverageFractionCaller bulk coverage fractionnumberRequired

Supply ordered nonoverlapping positive-width year bucket pairs, aligned nonnegative integer dated-item counts and a coverage fraction greater than zero and at most one. Total dated count must be positive. Examine contiguous bucket spans, select the shortest meeting the target and retain the earliest span on ties. Return its outer bounds and achieved share of dated items.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

select minimum-width contiguous bucket span with coveredCount≥coverageFraction × totalDatedCount

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Up to 128 buckets are supported. Entire buckets are included, so achieved coverage can exceed the target. Undated material and dates within each bucket are not inferred; gaps between buckets contribute to the selected span's width.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Date Span Open vs Closed Range Classifier: Classify explicit known/unknown year endpoints in an archival descriptive range, distinct from ISO interval duration validation; -1 means unknown, not an actual year. For a complementary task, use Documentation Planning Coverage Percent Checker: Audit documentation-plan target coverage and unresolved upper bound, not caller field completeness within already catalogued records or missing-as-documented assumptions.
