Description
Return one trapezoidal waterbody-layer volume.
Waterbody volume and sampling support depend on depth orientation, layer geometry and interval overlap. A representative layer or covered depth can be summarized without recovering bathymetry or establishing representative ecological sampling. Unique covered thickness differs from the full span between distant intervals.
Return one trapezoidal waterbody-layer volume.
When to use this tool
Use Waterbody Volume Layer Contribution when checking the stated waterbody geometry, layer volume or sampling-support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter topArea, bottomArea, thickness. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read volume. Use the output convention below.
Return one trapezoidal waterbody-layer volume. Require nonnegative top/bottom area and thickness; volume = (topArea+bottomArea)*thickness/2, evaluated with split averaging.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| topArea | Top Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| bottomArea | Bottom Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| thickness | Thickness | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| volume | Volume in the unit implied by the stated geometry; no implicit unit conversion. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This assumes a suitable linear area profile; no bathymetric survey, exact 3D volume or measurement uncertainty is supplied.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified bathymetry and sampling records with an appropriate complete spatial model for whole-waterbody quantities or ecological conclusions.
