Filter Flow Bypass Fraction Tool

Calculate filter flow bypass fraction from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return bypass fraction and nominal filtered flow.

Aquaponic flow and storage models depend on usable pore space, reserve volume, pump head and operating duration. An ideal hydraulic power or nominal turnover term describes supplied values while actual flow distribution, aeration and equipment performance require measurement and system design.

Return bypass fraction and nominal filtered flow.

When to use this tool

Use Filter Flow Bypass Fraction when checking the stated aquaponic flow, volume or power term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bypassFlow, totalFlow. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read bypassShare, treatedFlow. Use the output convention below.

Return bypass fraction and nominal filtered flow. Require totalFlow > 0 and bypass within it; bypassShare = bypass/total, treatedFlow = total-bypass.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
bypassFlowBypass FlowRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
totalFlowTotal FlowRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • TreatedFlow is a flow label, not proof of contaminant removal, biofilter performance or safe aquatic conditions.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured flows and verified equipment/system specifications with qualified engineering and aquaculture review for real operation.
