Cage Volume Calculator

Actual deformed cage volume trapezoid section area versus measured depth profile, no nominal box volume or undeformedcagesizeguarantee.

Description

A net cage's actual enclosed volume can change with its measured deformation.

A net cage's actual enclosed volume can change with its measured deformation.1

This tool integrates surveyed cross-sectional areas over depth using trapezoids without assuming an undeformed box.

When to use Cage Volume Calculator

Use this tool to integrate surveyed cross-sectional areas over depth using trapezoids without assuming an undeformed box.

How to use Cage Volume Calculator and how it works

  1. Establish the observations, units, reference context and assumptions described below.
  2. Enter actualDeformedNetCageSectionAreas, actualSectionDepthsMeters and run the tool.
  3. Read result.value using the meanings and sign conventions below.
  4. Correct any rejected inputs and rerun; independently review the result under the stated scope.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
actualDeformedNetCageSectionAreasAt least two nonnegative observed cage cross-sectional areas in square meters, in increasing-depth order.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below
actualSectionDepthsMetersAt least two nonnegative strictly increasing survey depths in meters, aligned with areas.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below

Supply aligned nonempty nonnegative cross-sectional areas in square meters and nonnegative depths in meters. Require at least two strictly increasing depths. Sum the trapezoidal contributions (area_i+area_(i+1))/2*(depth_(i+1)-depth_i) and return cubic meters. Only the supplied depth range is integrated; no end-cap extrapolation or undeformed cage dimensions are inserted.

volumeCubicMeters=sum((A_i+A_(i+1))/2*(depth_(i+1)-depth_i))

Use the stated ordering, units and branch conditions.

Limitations and assumptions

The calculation depends on independently established observations, coefficients and the matching units. It does not collect data, choose a treatment or target, establish model applicability or provide a validated forecast. Interpret its result within the branch conditions and assumptions above.

Supply explicit values and dense aligned arrays. Unexpected fields, wrong types and nonfinite scalar values are rejected; fixed-token, alignment and other branch conditions are explained above. A successful false flag, empty match list or unknown-evidence list differs from an input error. Extremely large inputs or nonrepresentable results may fail.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Pond Volume Calculator for a related operation: An irregular pond can be surveyed as disjoint plan cells with observed mean water depths.

Use Hydraulic Retention Time Calculator for a related operation: Nominal hydraulic retention time compares working water volume with volumetric inflow.
