Queen Cage Candy Release Days

Extrapolate a measured candy-mass trend to a caller barrier criterion; this forecasts mass only, not actual queen release, acceptance or an instruction to open a cage.

Description

Remaining candy mass can be extrapolated to a supplied barrier criterion using an observed trend.

Remaining candy mass can be extrapolated to a supplied barrier criterion using an observed trend. The predicted mass threshold is distinct from actual queen release or acceptance.1

Extrapolate a measured candy-mass trend to a caller barrier criterion; this forecasts mass only, not actual queen release, acceptance or an instruction to open a cage.

When to use Queen Cage Candy Release Days

Use this tool to extrapolate a measured candy-mass trend to a caller barrier criterion; this forecasts mass only, not actual queen release, acceptance or an instruction to open a cage.

Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.

How to use Queen Cage Candy Release Days and understand its results

  1. Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
  2. Enter timesDays, measuredRemainingCandyGrams, callerBarrierReleaseMassGrams using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read modeledBarrierReleaseDay, isExtrapolatedBeyondObservation, fitRSquared. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Pair at least two increasing times in days with nonnegative candy masses in g, and enter a nonnegative release-mass criterion. Require a declining fitted slope and a modeled crossing no earlier than the first observation. Return crossing day, R² and a flag if it lies strictly beyond the last observed time.

Each sequence checked for increasing order must contain at least two strictly increasing values. The least-squares fit needs at least two aligned observations and a varying independent variable. Where R² is returned, the helper assigns 1 for a constant dependent variable.

modeledDay = (barrierMass−OLS intercept)/OLS slope

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The linear trend and barrier criterion are supplied assumptions. The model does not guarantee release, infer acceptance or instruct the user to open a cage. In-window estimates are not necessarily observed events.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Walk Away Split Timing Checker: Screen a caller walk-away development/mating timing scenario against a forage horizon; no natural queen-development constants, mating success or split recommendation is embedded. For a complementary task, use Virgin Mating Flight Window Days: Screen forecast days against supplied queen-age, temperature and wind windows; eligibility does not guarantee mating flights, drone availability or fertility.
