Description

Multiply nonnegative integer personCount by nightCount for personNights.

A diary share compares recorded time with a chosen observation period. The interpretation depends on the activity definition, overlapping entries, and the denominator; arithmetic alone does not verify the completeness of the diary.

Multiply nonnegative integer personCount by nightCount for personNights.

When to use this tool

Use Household Person Night Count when you need a stated time-use share from supplied diary totals.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter personCount, nightCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read personNights. Use the output convention below.

Multiply nonnegative integer personCount by nightCount for personNights.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is aggregate exposure accounting, not unique residents, household membership, observed presence, housing adequacy, or living conditions.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the full diary coding scheme and observation coverage before interpreting the share.
