Artifact Measurement Scale Factor Tool

Calculate artifact measurement scale factor from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Convert recorded artifact length with a supplied inverse-scale factor.

Anthropological records depend on source-specific labels, observation periods, coding choices and participant context. A ratio, cyclic index or kinship-code offset describes supplied data rather than identifying a social relationship or cultural meaning. Replacing names with aliases does not establish anonymity.

Convert recorded artifact length with a supplied inverse-scale factor.

When to use this tool

Use Artifact Measurement Scale Factor when checking the stated observation, coding, chronology or record convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedLength, recordedUnitsPerActualUnit. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read actualLength. Use the output convention below.

Convert recorded artifact length with a supplied inverse-scale factor. Require recordedLength >= 0 and recordedUnitsPerActualUnit > 0; actualLength = recordedLength/factor.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
recordedLengthRecorded LengthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
recordedUnitsPerActualUnitPositive number of recorded units corresponding to one actual length unit; conversion divides by this value.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
actualLengthActual LengthRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor direction is recorded units per actual unit; no measurement calibration, artifact identity or historical unit is independently verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the original field records, community context and appropriate ethical/privacy practices for cultural interpretation or disclosure decisions.
