Animal Observation Occluded Boundary Count Tool

Count observed transitions inside a sampled occlusion mask without inventing transitions outside the record.

Description

Count internal occlusion-status transitions.

Animal observations distinguish recorded events, classification tokens, count expectations and measurement residuals. A normalized score or supplied activity transition is not a diagnosis or validated behavioral interpretation. Unknown records and incomplete observation windows must remain explicit.

Count internal occlusion-status transitions.

When to use this tool

Use Animal Observation Occluded Boundary Count when checking the stated animal observation, score, count or time convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter occluded. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read transitions, starts, ends. Use the output convention below.

Count internal occlusion-status transitions. Starting at index one, each false-to-true transition adds a start and true-to-false adds an end; transitions sums both.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
occludedOccludedRequired. Array of boolean; maximum items 256.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
transitionsTransitionsRequired. Safe integer.
startsFalse-to-true transitions between supplied adjacent samples; an initial true is not counted as a new start.Required. Safe integer.
endsTrue-to-false transitions between adjacent samples; a final true is not counted as an end.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • An initially occluded sample is not counted as a start and no terminal closure is added; no image analysis or animal behavior is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original animal and observation records, use an appropriate statistical model and consult qualified veterinary/husbandry professionals for health or welfare decisions.
