Description
Parse a signed decimal coefficient token with optional fraction and exponent.
A polynomial or rational expression has coefficients, an evaluation rule, and a domain. An algebraically reduced rational form can extend across a removed hole, so evaluating that form does not by itself restore the original expression's domain.
Parse a signed decimal coefficient token with optional fraction and exponent.
When to use this tool
Use Polynomial Coefficient Decimal Scale Label when you need one bounded polynomial representation or rational-evaluation component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter coefficientText. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read fractionDigits, exponent, effectiveDecimalScale. Use the output convention below.
Parse a signed decimal coefficient token with optional fraction and exponent. Count fractional digits, require exponent in [-10000, 10000], and return fractionDigits minus exponent as effectiveDecimalScale.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| coefficientText | Coefficient Text | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| fractionDigits | Fraction Digits | Required. Safe integer. |
| exponent | Exponent | Required. Safe integer. |
| effectiveDecimalScale | Lexical fractional-digit count minus decimal exponent; may be negative, independently of binary floating-point precision. | Required. Safe integer. |

"coefficientText": "-12.3400e-2"
},
"output": {

} Limitations and assumptions
- The grammar permits leading plus and integer leading zeros; coefficient magnitude is not evaluated and lexical scale is not significant-digit precision.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Track the original domain and verify any claimed cancellation or equivalence before using the reduced expression.
