Farm Event Source Delay Tool

Compare supplied source/ingestion timestamps after explicit clock normalization.

Description

Normalize eventTime by subtracting sourceOffset.

Agricultural time series depend on clock origins, reporting intervals, source vintage and crop-season labeling. A supplied clock offset can reconcile timestamps, while matching source labels alone cannot prove clock synchronization. Calendar-year labels and start-year/end-year crop-season labels use different boundary conventions.

Normalize eventTime by subtracting sourceOffset.

When to use this tool

Use Farm Event Source Delay when checking the stated clock, period, reporting-support or season-label convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter eventTime, ingestTime, sourceOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalizedEvent, sourceDelay. Use the output convention below.

Normalize eventTime by subtracting sourceOffset. Return normalizedEvent and ingestTime-normalizedEvent as signed sourceDelay in the same time unit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative delay is retained; timestamps and the supplied clock correction are not independently verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified time metadata, calibrated clocks and the relevant complete crop/calendar conventions for actual temporal alignment and interpretation.
