Agricultural Raster Cell To Field Fraction Tool

Calculate agricultural raster cell to field fraction from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return intersection/cell area.

Raster cells may describe intensive quantities per area or extensive totals assigned to a cell. Allocating an intersected fraction of a total differs from integrating an intensive value over intersection area. The intersection and compatible area units must be established before combining cell and field data.

Return intersection/cell area.

When to use this tool

Use Agricultural Raster Cell To Field Fraction when checking a supplied raster-to-field area contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cellArea, intersectedArea, cellValue, intensive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, contribution. Use the output convention below.

Require positive cellArea and 0<=intersectedArea<=cellArea. Return intersection/cell area. For an intensive cellValue, contribution=cellValue*intersectedArea; for an extensive cell total, contribution=cellValue*fraction.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
cellAreaCell AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
intersectedAreaIntersected AreaRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
cellValueCell ValueRequired. Finite number.
intensiveTrue treats cellValue as quantity per area; false treats it as a full cell total.Required. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
fractionDimensionless fraction on the stated basis, rather than a percentage number.Required. Finite number.
contributionIntegrated amount cellValue*intersection for intensive data, or proportional cell total for extensive data.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Intersection area is supplied, not geometrically computed; intensive units must be quantity per matching area unit.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete geospatial intersection/resampling workflow with verified coordinate reference systems and cell-value units for actual field aggregation.
