Tree Row Root Zone Overlap Width Tool

Intersection width of the two one-dimensional root-zone intervals centered on their rows, including contained intervals.

Loading tool…

Description

Treat root zones as horizontal intervals [-firstRadius,firstRadius] and [rowSpacing-secondRadius,rowSpacing+secondRadius].

Agroforestry geometry separates row widths, root-zone intervals, canopy projections and repeated-strip area bases. Optical shade, optical porosity and a clear machinery corridor are different quantities. Ideal dimensions and supplied overlaps can support bookkeeping without establishing light conditions, aerodynamic shelter or safe access.

Treat root zones as horizontal intervals [-firstRadius,firstRadius] and [rowSpacing-secondRadius,rowSpacing+secondRadius].

When to use this tool

Use Tree Row Root Zone Overlap Width when checking the stated ideal tree-row, shade, buffer or area convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstRadius, secondRadius, rowSpacing. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overlapWidth, clearWidth. Use the output convention below.

Treat root zones as horizontal intervals [-firstRadius,firstRadius] and [rowSpacing-secondRadius,rowSpacing+secondRadius]. Return their nonnegative overlap width and max(0,rowSpacing-firstRadius-secondRadius).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is one-dimensional interval geometry, not a root distribution, overlap area or competition model.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured terrain and canopy geometry, appropriate light/flow models and qualified agricultural/engineering assessment for actual layouts and operations.
