Tree Cohort Observation Share Tool

Calculate tree cohort observation share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return observed/eligible, or zero with defined=false when eligible is zero.

Agroforestry observations combine sampled areas, cohort counts, source uncertainty and caller-supplied response assumptions. A sample expansion or conditional yield term can be computed independently of sampling representativeness or a validated tree-crop interaction. Unknown source flags must retain their reporting meaning.

Return observed/eligible, or zero with defined=false when eligible is zero.

When to use this tool

Use Tree Cohort Observation Share when checking the stated cohort, sample-expansion or assumed-response convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observed, eligible. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read share, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require whole counts 0<=observed<=eligible. Return observed/eligible, or zero with defined=false when eligible is zero.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
observedObservedRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
eligibleEligibleRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
shareDimensionless share using the operation-specific denominator stated above; not a percentage number.Required. Finite number.
definedWhether the corresponding reporting denominator/value is defined; inspect before interpreting zero placeholders.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is observed coverage on the supplied eligible population, not a detection-probability estimate.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use representative verified samples and an appropriate complete ecological/statistical model for abundance, yield response and uncertainty.
