Description
Calculate supplied soil-depth interval midpoint and thickness.
Agricultural chemical records distinguish wet-basis moisture, dilution direction, charge equivalents and supplied reporting bases. A fertilizer-grade token preserves reported percentages without converting elemental and oxide conventions or validating composition. Retest-date gaps and lot labels do not establish product safety or authorized use.
Calculate supplied soil-depth interval midpoint and thickness.
When to use this tool
Use Soil Sample Depth Midpoint when you already have topDepth, bottomDepth and need to calculate supplied soil-depth interval midpoint and thickness.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter topDepth, bottomDepth. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read midpointDepth, thickness. Use the output convention below.
Require topDepth>=0 and bottom>=top; midpoint=top/2+bottom/2, thickness=bottom-top.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| topDepth | Top Depth | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| bottomDepth | Bottom Depth | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| midpointDepth | Midpoint Depth | Required. Finite number. |
| thickness | Thickness | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A zero-thickness interval is allowed. Use a common depth origin/unit; no sample, horizon, representativeness or soil condition is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original laboratory, product, sample and controlled-label records with the complete appropriate assessment. Verify units and reporting bases before applying local factors; these tools do not select chemicals, preparation procedures or application amounts.
