Agriculture Seed Requirement

Aggregate caller calibrated field seed mass with handling loss and whole-bag rounding; unlike seeding-rate inversion, established-stand biology is not inferred from supplied rates.

Description

Field seed procurement combines area-specific rates with handling loss and whole-bag purchasing.

Field seed procurement combines area-specific rates with handling loss and whole-bag purchasing. Biological stand inversion is separate from applying an already calibrated kg/ha rate.1

Aggregate caller calibrated field seed mass with handling loss and whole-bag rounding; unlike seeding-rate inversion, established-stand biology is not inferred from supplied rates.

When to use Agriculture Seed Requirement

Use this tool to aggregate caller calibrated field seed mass with handling loss and whole-bag rounding; unlike seeding-rate inversion, established-stand biology is not inferred from supplied rates.

Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Agriculture Seed Requirement and understand its results

  1. Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter fieldAreasHa, calibratedSeedRatesKgPerHa, handlingLossFractions, seedBagMassKg using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read fieldGrossSeedRequirementsKg, totalGrossSeedRequirementKg, wholeBagCount, seedMassRemainderKg. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
fieldAreasHaField areas halist of numberRequired
calibratedSeedRatesKgPerHaCalibrated seed rates kg per halist of numberRequired
handlingLossFractionsHandling loss fractionslist of numberRequired
seedBagMassKgSeed bag mass kgnumberRequired

Pair nonnegative field hectares and seed rates with handling-loss fractions in [0,1), and supply positive bag kg. Return each gross requirement, total, whole bag count and purchased-minus-required remainder. A zero total requires zero bags.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

grossKg_i = area_i rate_i/(1−loss_i); bags = ceil(ΣgrossKg/bagKg)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Rates and losses are caller assumptions. The tool does not infer germination or an appropriate sowing rate and assumes one bag mass for the entire order.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Agriculture Seeding Rate: Calculate field seed-count/mass requirements from target established stand with separate purity, laboratory germination and field-establishment assumptions; differs from tray-based sowing and is not a species seeding recommendation. For a complementary task, use Agriculture Thousand Seed Weight: Pool unequal counted seed subsamples and conserve dry matter to a caller reporting moisture basis; unlike a fixed unit weight, differing sample counts/moisture are explicit.
