Agriculture Plant Population Per Hectare

Estimate field stand/productive plant equivalents from sampled row exposure with unequal spacing and explicit productive share; does not assume all planted seed positions establish or duplicate fixed-plot tree expansion.

Description

Observed field density uses sampled row exposure rather than assuming every planted seed position survives.

Observed field density uses sampled row exposure rather than assuming every planted seed position survives. A productive fraction gives a separate plant-equivalent density on that same sampled area.1

Estimate field stand/productive plant equivalents from sampled row exposure with unequal spacing and explicit productive share; does not assume all planted seed positions establish or duplicate fixed-plot tree expansion.

When to use Agriculture Plant Population Per Hectare

Use this tool to estimate field stand/productive plant equivalents from sampled row exposure with unequal spacing and explicit productive share; does not assume all planted seed positions establish or duplicate fixed-plot tree expansion.

Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Agriculture Plant Population Per Hectare and understand its results

  1. Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter rowSegmentLengthsM, rowSpacingsM, observedPlantCounts, productivePlantFractions using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read observedPlantDensityPerHa, productiveEquivalentPlantDensityPerHa. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Pair positive row lengths and spacings in m with nonnegative integer plant counts and productive fractions in [0,1]. Return observed plants/ha and productive-equivalent plants/ha using Σ(count×productive fraction). Unequal sampled areas are pooled before dividing.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

sampleArea = Σ(rowLength_i rowSpacing_i); density/ha = 10000Σcount/sampleArea

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Sampling representativeness and productive classification are supplied. The tool does not infer missing stands, planted seed density or crop-specific target population.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Agriculture Seed Spacing: Invert target expected field stand to multi-seed drop spacing with explicit per-seed establishment probability; counts represent expected plants (multiple plants per drop permitted), not probability of at least one plant or species guidance. For a complementary task, use Agriculture Seeding Rate: Calculate field seed-count/mass requirements from target established stand with separate purity, laboratory germination and field-establishment assumptions; differs from tray-based sowing and is not a species seeding recommendation.
