Agriculture Lime Requirement

Convert independently titrated soil acidity to a caller CaCO3-equivalent/product mass under depth/density/neutralization/effectiveness assumptions; does not choose target pH, titration endpoint or a field dose recommendation.

Description

A titrated acidity budget can be converted to a calcium-carbonate equivalent and then a product mass.

A titrated acidity budget can be converted to a calcium-carbonate equivalent and then a product mass. Depth, soil density and neutralization assumptions determine the treated inventory.1

Convert independently titrated soil acidity to a caller CaCO3-equivalent/product mass under depth/density/neutralization/effectiveness assumptions; does not choose target pH, titration endpoint or a field dose recommendation.

When to use Agriculture Lime Requirement

Use this tool to convert independently titrated soil acidity to a caller CaCO3-equivalent/product mass under depth/density/neutralization/effectiveness assumptions; does not choose target pH, titration endpoint or a field dose recommendation.

Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Agriculture Lime Requirement and understand its results

  1. Prepare the field, crop, soil or material measurements for the intended period. Confirm units, dry/wet bases and supplied parameters; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter titratedAcidityCmolChargePerKg, soilBulkDensityKgPerM3, treatmentDepthM, neutralizingGramsCaCO3PerMolCharge, productNeutralizingValueFraction, fieldReactionEffectivenessFraction using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read titratedPureCaCO3EquivalentTonnesPerHa, modelLimeProductTonnesPerHa. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

fieldReactionEffectivenessFractionField reaction effectiveness fractionnumberRequired

Enter nonnegative titrated acidity and positive soil density, depth and neutralizing g CaCO₃ per mol charge. Supply product neutralizing value and field effectiveness greater than zero and at most one. Return pure-equivalent tonnes/ha and that amount divided by both fractions as modeled product tonnes/ha.

soilKg/ha = bulkDensity × depth × 10000; CaCO3 t/ha = acidityCmol/kg × 0.01 × soilKg × gramsPerMolCharge/10⁶

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The titration endpoint and product response are independently supplied. The tool does not choose target pH or recommend a field application; soil heterogeneity and reaction kinetics are excluded.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Agriculture Fertilizer Requirement Phosphorus: Account harvest P removal plus caller soil-build budget and credits, explicitly separating elemental P, P2O5 and product mass; distinct from N recovery/uptake balance, without soil-test recommendations. For a complementary task, use Agriculture Fertilizer Requirement Nitrogen: Balance caller crop N uptake/available soil/other credits with explicit recovery/product fractions; a simple accounting scenario, not agronomic sufficiency, environmental permission or application recommendation.
