Agriculture Cover Crop Biomass Calculator

Survey-weighted clipping dry-biomass estimates from unequal areas/paired dry fraction, not crop harvest yield. Caller independently establishes units, regime, calibration and applicability; this does not establish design-code compliance, authenticity, operational safety, treatment efficacy or a validated forecast.

Description

Cover-crop clipping estimates need sample areas, paired dry fractions and an appropriate expansion-weight convention.

Cover-crop clipping estimates need sample areas, paired dry fractions and an appropriate expansion-weight convention.1

This tool calculates weighted dry biomass per hectare from those supplied observations.

When to use Agriculture Cover Crop Biomass Calculator

Use this tool to calculate weighted dry biomass per hectare from those supplied observations.

How to use Agriculture Cover Crop Biomass Calculator and how it works

  1. Establish the observations, units, reference context and assumptions described below.
  2. Enter coverCropClipWetMassKg, matchedCoverCropDryFractions, coverCropClipAreasM2, callerClipExpansionWeights and run the tool.
  3. Read weightedCoverCropDryBiomassKgHa using the meanings and sign conventions below.
  4. Correct any rejected inputs and rerun; independently review the result under the stated scope.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
coverCropClipWetMassKgNonempty nonnegative wet clipping masses in kg, one per survey clip.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below
matchedCoverCropDryFractionsDry fractions from 0 to 1 inclusive matched to each wet clipping.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below
coverCropClipAreasM2Positive sampled clipping areas in square meters, in clip order.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below
callerClipExpansionWeightsPositive independently established survey expansion weights, one per clip.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below

Supply aligned nonempty arrays of nonnegative clipped wet mass in kilograms, dry fractions from zero to one, positive clipped areas in square meters and positive caller-established expansion weights. Sum wetMass*dryFraction*weight, divide by sum(area*weight), and multiply by 10000. Return weighted dry biomass kilograms per hectare; this is a ratio of weighted totals, not a simple average of per-clip densities.

dryBiomassKgPerHectare=10000*sum(wetKg_i*dryFraction_i*weight_i)/sum(areaM2_i*weight_i)

Use the stated ordering, units and branch conditions.

Limitations and assumptions

The calculation depends on independently established observations, coefficients and the matching units. It does not collect data, choose a treatment or target, establish model applicability or provide a validated forecast. Interpret its result within the branch conditions and assumptions above.

Supply explicit values and dense aligned arrays. Unexpected fields, wrong types and nonfinite scalar values are rejected; fixed-token, alignment and other branch conditions are explained above. A successful false flag, empty match list or unknown-evidence list differs from an input error. Extremely large inputs or nonrepresentable results may fail.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Processing Yield Calculator for a related operation: Processing yield describes recovered product mass relative to the matching whole harvest.

Use Agriculture Dry Matter Content Calculator for a related operation: Dry matter content compares oven-dry mass with the matching wet sample mass.
