Wittgenstein Family Resemblance Definition Checker

Audit evidence of a declared family-resemblance use; not prove no essence exists. Wittgenstein, Philosophical Investigations66–71. Independently established criterion columns: overlapping independently annotated traits, no universally shared trait asserted, comparison context independently declared. No certification or invented missing evidence.

Description

Family resemblance describes overlapping similarities that can organize a concept without one asserted feature shared by every member.

Family resemblance describes overlapping similarities that can organize a concept without one asserted feature shared by every member.1

This tool separates witnessed, missing and unknown annotations for a specified use of that idea.

When to use Wittgenstein Family Resemblance Definition Checker

Use this tool to review witnessed, missing and unknown annotations for a specified use of that idea.

How to use Wittgenstein Family Resemblance Definition Checker and how it works

  1. Independently assess each listed feature or criterion in the fixed order; record unknown evidence with a zero known flag and a valid binary observation placeholder.
  2. Enter observedCriterionFlags, criterionKnownFlags and run the tool.
  3. Read result.witnessedCriteria, result.knownMissingCriteria, result.unknownCriteria using the meanings and sign conventions below.
  4. Review missing and unknown evidence separately; resolve it through independent observation rather than treating compatible classes or placeholders as established facts.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
observedCriterionFlagsBinary 0-or-1 observations in the fixed criterion order below.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below
criterionKnownFlagsBinary evidence-known flags in that order; 0 preserves uncertainty regardless of the observation placeholder.array of numberRequired; branch conditions below

Enter two binary arrays in the exact criterion order listed below, one observation flag and one evidence-known flag per criterion. Both arrays must have the required length; all values must be integers 0 or 1, including placeholders for unknown observations. Known=1 with observed=1 returns the criterion in witnessedCriteria; known=1 with observed=0 returns it in knownMissingCriteria; known=0 returns it in unknownCriteria regardless of the placeholder. Lists preserve fixed criterion order. The tool neither gathers evidence nor verifies the asserted observation, and unknown evidence must not be treated as a failed or passed criterion.

witnessed=labels where known=1 and observed=1; missing=labels where known=1 and observed=0; unknown=labels where known=0

Use the stated ordering, units and branch conditions.

Limitations and assumptions

The evidence annotations are supplied by the caller. Unknown observations remain unknown, and compatible readings can overlap. The tool does not analyze images or texts, collect observations, prove a theory, certify a design or determine artistic quality.

Supply explicit values and dense aligned arrays. Unexpected fields, wrong types and nonfinite scalar values are rejected; fixed-token, alignment and other branch conditions are explained above. A successful false flag, empty match list or unknown-evidence list differs from an input error. Extremely large inputs or nonrepresentable results may fail.
