Visual Rhythm Motif Repetition Interval Counter
Intervals between actual independently identified matching motifs on one ordered measurement axis; unmatched motifs do not reset the interval. No automatic visual rhythm or aesthetic effect inferred.
Description
Visual repetition can be summarized through intervals between independently identified instances of one motif.
Visual repetition can be summarized through intervals between independently identified instances of one motif.1
This tool returns matching positions and their consecutive intervals along a measured axis.
When to use Visual Rhythm Motif Repetition Interval Counter
Use this tool to obtain matching positions and their consecutive intervals along a measured axis.
How to use Visual Rhythm Motif Repetition Interval Counter and how it works
- Establish the observations, units, reference context and assumptions described below.
- Enter independentlyObservedMotifIds, independentlyMeasuredPositions, queryMotifId and run the tool.
- Read result.matchedPositionIndices, result.consecutiveMatchedIntervals using the meanings and sign conventions below.
- Correct any rejected inputs and rerun; independently review the result under the stated scope.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| independentlyObservedMotifIds | Nonblank observed motif IDs; repeats are allowed and matching is exact. | array of string | Required; branch conditions below |
| independentlyMeasuredPositions | Finite strictly increasing positions aligned with motif IDs, on one measurement axis. | array of number | Required; branch conditions below |
| queryMotifId | Nonblank exact case-sensitive motif ID; absence succeeds with empty results. | string | Required; branch conditions below |
Supply aligned nonempty motif-ID and finite position arrays, with positions strictly increasing, and a nonblank query ID. Motif IDs must be nonblank but may repeat. Match IDs exactly and case-sensitively, retaining their zero-based indices; subtract positions of successive matches even if other motifs intervene. An absent motif succeeds with empty index and interval lists; one match has no interval.
matchedIndices=all i with motifId_i===query; intervals_j=position_(match_(j+1))-position_(match_j) Use the stated ordering, units and branch conditions.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the fields below. | object |
| result.matchedPositionIndices | Zero-based indices of exact motif matches in original order. | array of number |
| result.consecutiveMatchedIntervals | Distances between consecutive matches in the position unit; intervening other motifs do not reset them. | array of number |

} Limitations and assumptions
The calculation depends on independently established observations, coefficients and the matching units. It does not collect data, choose a treatment or target, establish model applicability or provide a validated forecast. Interpret its result within the branch conditions and assumptions above.
Supply explicit values and dense aligned arrays. Unexpected fields, wrong types and nonfinite scalar values are rejected; fixed-token, alignment and other branch conditions are explained above. A successful false flag, empty match list or unknown-evidence list differs from an input error. Extremely large inputs or nonrepresentable results may fail.
