Universal Design Seven Principles Mace Checklist
Record independently assessed seven-principle Universal Design evidence. Center for Universal Design 1997. Unknown observations are not compliance/accessibility certification. Independently established criterion columns: equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, size and space for approach and use. No certification or invented missing evidence.
Description
Universal Design principles provide distinct questions about equitable and usable design.
Universal Design principles provide distinct questions about equitable and usable design.1
This tool records known and unknown observations across seven named criteria without certifying accessibility.
When to use Universal Design Seven Principles Mace Checklist
Use this tool to record known and unknown observations across seven named criteria without certifying accessibility.
How to use Universal Design Seven Principles Mace Checklist and how it works
- Independently assess each listed feature or criterion in the fixed order; record unknown evidence with a zero known flag and a valid binary observation placeholder.
- Enter observedCriterionFlags, criterionKnownFlags and run the tool.
- Read result.witnessedCriteria, result.knownMissingCriteria, result.unknownCriteria using the meanings and sign conventions below.
- Review missing and unknown evidence separately; resolve it through independent observation rather than treating compatible classes or placeholders as established facts.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| observedCriterionFlags | Binary 0-or-1 observations in the fixed criterion order below. | array of number | Required; branch conditions below |
| criterionKnownFlags | Binary evidence-known flags in that order; 0 preserves uncertainty regardless of the observation placeholder. | array of number | Required; branch conditions below |
Enter two binary arrays in the exact criterion order listed below, one observation flag and one evidence-known flag per criterion. Both arrays must have the required length; all values must be integers 0 or 1, including placeholders for unknown observations. Known=1 with observed=1 returns the criterion in witnessedCriteria; known=1 with observed=0 returns it in knownMissingCriteria; known=0 returns it in unknownCriteria regardless of the placeholder. Lists preserve fixed criterion order. The tool neither gathers evidence nor verifies the asserted observation, and unknown evidence must not be treated as a failed or passed criterion.
witnessed=labels where known=1 and observed=1; missing=labels where known=1 and observed=0; unknown=labels where known=0 Use the stated ordering, units and branch conditions.

} Limitations and assumptions
The evidence annotations are supplied by the caller. Unknown observations remain unknown, and compatible readings can overlap. The tool does not analyze images or texts, collect observations, prove a theory, certify a design or determine artistic quality.
Supply explicit values and dense aligned arrays. Unexpected fields, wrong types and nonfinite scalar values are rejected; fixed-token, alignment and other branch conditions are explained above. A successful false flag, empty match list or unknown-evidence list differs from an input error. Extremely large inputs or nonrepresentable results may fail.
