Practice-Room Noise Target Screen

Compare a measured room-criterion value with an explicit caller target while preserving the caller’s instrument-family label.

Description

Practice-room background noise should be compared with a project-selected criterion.

Practice-room background noise should be compared with a project-selected criterion. Instrument labels alone do not define one universal target.1

Compare a measured room-criterion value with an explicit caller target while preserving the caller’s instrument-family label.

When to use Practice-Room Noise Target Screen

Use this tool to compare a measured room-criterion value with an explicit caller target while preserving the caller’s instrument-family label.

Choose a supported reference topic, run an input-free reference with an empty object, or prepare the measured values and caller-supplied test records requested. Keep acoustic metrics, frequency, units and test conditions consistent.

How to use Practice-Room Noise Target Screen and understand its results

  1. Choose a supported reference topic, run an input-free reference with an empty object, or prepare the measured values and caller-supplied test records requested. Keep acoustic metrics, frequency, units and test conditions consistent.
  2. Enter instrumentFamily, measuredRoomCriterion, targetMaximumRoomCriterion using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read instrumentFamily, marginToTarget, withinCallerTarget. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
instrumentFamilyInstrument familystringRequired
measuredRoomCriterionMeasured RCnumber; minimum: 0Required
targetMaximumRoomCriterionCaller target maximum RCnumber; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonblank instrument-family text and nonnegative RC/maximum. Return original label, signed margin and inclusive gate.

margin=targetMaximum−measuredRC; gate=margin≥0

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The label is preserved without determining the target. No RC spectrum or instrument-family design recommendation is computed.

Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Room Criterion Reference: Distinguish RC-family ratings and diagnostic descriptors without reproducing proprietary or edition-specific tables. For a complementary task, use Space Noise Criteria Reference: Return room-noise criterion selection cautions for occupied spaces.
