MLV Product STC Lookup

Look up a provenance-bearing MLV product row, convert its surface mass to metric units, and explicitly avoid treating a standalone specimen STC as an additive assembly supplement.

Description

Mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) is described by surface mass and tested construction.

Mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) is described by surface mass and tested construction. A standalone sound transmission class (STC) claim does not establish the STC of a combined wall.1, 2

The returned values include caveat, Combined assembly STC, selectedProduct, MLV surface mass. The How section below explains the calculation, input rules and interpretation.

When to use MLV Product STC Lookup

Use MLV Product STC Lookup when you need to evaluate the supplied records under the calculation and evidence rules below. The committed factor converts pounds to kilograms but omits the square-foot-to-square-meter area conversion. The output labeled kilograms per square meter therefore is not a valid surface-mass conversion. Verify units independently. No composite-assembly rating is calculated.

Choose the measured quantities, units, weighting and measurement basis before entering values. For a reference, select the exact topic. For a catalog lookup, prepare complete source-backed records; for a screen, select an applicable caller limit.

How to use MLV Product STC Lookup and understand its results

  1. Choose the measured quantities, units, weighting and measurement basis before entering values. For a reference, select the exact topic. For a catalog lookup, prepare complete source-backed records; for a screen, select an applicable caller limit.
  2. Enter products, queryProductId using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read caveat, combinedAssemblyStc, selectedProduct, surfaceMassKgPerSquareMeter. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Supply 1–200 complete product records with distinct exact product IDs and select one exact ID. Require positive finite surface mass and thickness and a nonnegative finite reported STC. Retain the test method, rating basis and test reference. Return the full selected record, a caveat, a null combinedAssemblyStc and the surface-mass output calculated with the literal factor 0.45359237.

reportedSurfaceMassOutput=surfaceMassPoundsPerSquareFoot×0.45359237

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The committed factor converts pounds to kilograms but omits the square-foot-to-square-meter area conversion. The output labeled kilograms per square meter therefore is not a valid surface-mass conversion. Verify units independently. No composite-assembly rating is calculated. The NIST conversion factor for pounds per square foot to kilograms per square meter is approximately 4.882428.

Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing fields without a declared default, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Layered Gypsum Wall STC Lookup: A wall STC rating belongs to a particular complete tested assembly. Similar materials alone do not establish an interchangeable rating. For a complementary task, use Listed Assembly Evidence Reference: Verify the exact listing or design identifier, edition, manufacturer, construction, and rating scope against the listing service record. This reference explains the selected concept and the evidence needed to interpret it.
