Commission Accrual Period Allocation Tool
Allocate actual earned commission across caller period weights with exact largest-remainder tie rules and signed recorded-period true-ups; no revenue-performance period inferred from payment dates.
Description
Commission accrual can be allocated among explicit earned periods.
Commission accrual can be allocated among explicit earned periods. Exact integer remainders and prior postings determine signed true-ups.1
The returned values include Allocated commission by period minor, Signed true ups by period minor, Total signed true up minor. The How section below explains the calculation, input rules and interpretation.
When to use Commission Accrual Period Allocation Tool
Use Commission Accrual Period Allocation Tool when you need to evaluate the supplied records under the calculation and evidence rules below. No earning period is inferred from cash receipt dates.
Gather the source balances and explicit accounting policy. Monetary inputs use integer minor units in one currency; for a currency with 100 minor units per major unit, 12345 represents 123.45. One basis point is 0.01 percentage points; 10000 basis points is 100%. Dates and posting signs follow the individual rules below.
How to use Commission Accrual Period Allocation Tool and understand its results
- Gather the source balances and explicit accounting policy. Monetary inputs use integer minor units in one currency; for a currency with 100 minor units per major unit, 12345 represents 123.45. One basis point is 0.01 percentage points; 10000 basis points is 100%. Dates and posting signs follow the individual rules below.
- Enter totalEarnedCommissionMinor, callerPeriodAllocationWeights, previouslyRecordedByPeriodMinor using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read allocatedCommissionByPeriodMinor, signedTrueUpsByPeriodMinor, totalSignedTrueUpMinor. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| totalEarnedCommissionMinor | Total earned commission minor | number | Required |
| callerPeriodAllocationWeights | Caller period allocation weights | list of number | Required |
| previouslyRecordedByPeriodMinor | Previously recorded by period minor | list of number | Required |
Enter nonnegative safe-integer earned commission, aligned nonempty integer weights 0–1000000 with positive total and nonnegative safe-integer prior period amounts. Floor weighted shares and distribute leftover minor units by descending remainder, earliest index winning ties. Return allocations, signed period true-ups and checked total true-up.
allocation=largestRemainder(total, weights); trueUp_i=allocation_i−previous_i Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| allocatedCommissionByPeriodMinor | Allocated commission by period minor | list of number |
| signedTrueUpsByPeriodMinor | Signed true ups by period minor | list of number |
| totalSignedTrueUpMinor | Total signed true up minor | number |

No earning period is inferred from cash receipt dates.
Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 10,000 entries and string lists to 128 entries of at most 128 characters. Follow any smaller limits above. Missing fields without a declared default, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Partnership Capital Account Rollforward Calculator: Partner capital combines opening capital, contributions, drawings and allocated profit or loss. An exact sharing policy preserves total allocation and capital deficits. For a complementary task, use Unbilled Receivables Accrued Revenue Entry Tool: Accrued unbilled revenue needs an incremental true-up against amounts already recorded for the same performance. A downward revision reverses the excess.
