Age-Specific Sex Ratio Checker
Compute the sex ratio (males per 100 females) for each age group and flag groups outside a plausibility band; the default band of 90-110 is a stated heuristic and fully adjustable.

When to use Age-Specific Sex Ratio Checker
Use this indicator to compare age-sex structure after placing every count in the stated age bands and using the same population reference date.
- Males
- Male population of each age group.
- Females
- Female population of each age group, aligned with the males.
- Band minimum
- Heuristic lower bound of plausible age-specific sex ratios.
- Band maximum
- Heuristic upper bound of plausible age-specific sex ratios.
How the method works
- Sex ratios
- Sex ratio (males per 100 females) of each age group.
- Out-of-range
- Number of age groups whose ratio falls outside the plausibility band.
Limitations and assumptions
Fixed age thresholds are conventions rather than biological boundaries. Migration, cohort shocks, institutional populations, and different age-band definitions can alter comparisons.
Alternative or Complementary measures
Show the underlying age-sex counts or population pyramid beside the summary ratio. Alternative dependency thresholds can test whether a conclusion depends on one conventional age boundary.
